Introduction

When we dedicate ourselves to loving Allah and Hazrat Isa al Masih (PBUH), we receive the Holy Spirit. However, we have spent years thinking in wrong ways and developing many bad habits. In some ways we are like an old house. The old house has changed owners. Before our dedication, we were the owners. Now that we are devoted to loving and obeying Allah and Hazrat Isa, they are the owners; and they and the Spirit are now living in us. Yet, the house is old and many rooms need cleaning and repair. The Spirit now wants to take us on a journey of cleaning and repairing the many different rooms in the house - changing our many wrong thoughts, our many wrong attitudes and many wrong habits. This is a process, a process of cleaning and repairing one room at a time. This post describes the Spirit's process of cleansing and change.

We begin this process by prayer. Hazrat Isa al Masih began every day in prayer. So too must we.

We are to have confidence that Allah hears our request because it is his will that we be filled with the Spirit. Consequently, we are to have confidence that Allah is answering our prayer. We do not need to feel anything. We simply trust that God hears us and gladly and generously responds.

After we ask Allah to fill us with the Spirit, we should tell Allah that we are fully devoted to him and to his Masih and we want to obey his Sharia. Then we are to ask him to have the Spirit help us understand Allah's holy Word and to change our thoughts, attitudes, and actions so they become acceptable, good, and perfect.

After these prayers we are to read and memorize verses from Allah's Word. Then during the day also do Zikr. As we read, memorize, and do Zikr, we ask the Spirit to help us understand Allah's words so we can live in ways that are acceptable and good.

To help us be sensitive to the Spirit and the Word of Allah, we make this prayer by the Prophet in the Zabur our own prayer. By praying this we humble ourselves before Allah and show him we want to change.

Psalm 139:23-24

In these verses we read about the things we are not to do and about the things we are to do. When we do wrong we grieve the Holy Spirit. So, we are to be sensitive to the feelings of the Spirit, not wanting to grieve him. For whenever we grieve the Spirit of Allah, we grieve Allah. If we have done something wrong and we have grieved the Spirit, we are to ask Allah to forgive us and ask for the Spirit's help to change so we do not do that again. Remember, when we start this new life we have many wrong thoughts, wrong feelings, and wrong habits. Allah and the Spirit know that it takes time for us to change these old ways of thinking, feeling and acting. It is a lot of work to fix up an old house.

These verses describe what God is like. It is important that we remember what Allah is like whenever we realize that we have done what grieves the Spirit of Allah.

This process of being changed by the Spirit takes time and effort. But it is a glorious process. These verses are how Rasul Paul described this process. He said our lives become step by step a reflection of the glory of Allah and this all happens by the power of the Spirit.

Conclusion

When we dedicate ourselves to loving and obeying Allah and Hazrat Isa al Masih (PBUH), we receive the Holy Spirit. The Spirit begins a journey of remaking us so our characters begin to be changed into the character of his Masih. This is a journey of cleaning and changing our many wrong thoughts, wrong attitudes, and wrong habits. This is a wonderful process. Over time our thoughts, feelings, attitudes, and actions change and reflect more and more the character of Allah and his Messiah.
